How it works is the Green Light means your connection to the Internet is private and anonymous. When the AMENDMENT1 starts up, it accesses the local network to try to establish a connection to the Internet. If that test fails, the Green Light will not illuminate at all. Next, it will attempt to create a secure, anonymous circuit on the Tor Network. Using specially-designed TorProject.org software called STEM, AMENDMENT1 then tests to see if a valid Tor Circuit has been completed. Only then does the Green Light illuminate so you know that when you see the Green Light you are private and anonymous. The Tor Network is the only way you can be sure you are anonymous when browsing the Internet.

The AMENDMENT1 creates a secure WPA2 Wireless Hub with 802.11n Wireless network capable of up to 150 Mbps. The AMENDMENT1 features the Raspberry Pi 3 B Open hardware platform with a 64-Bit, Quad-Core processor running at 1.2 GHz (that’s fast!). With all that power it runs the agile DietPi distribution of Debian Linux 8. Debian Linux is one of the most-popular and widely-supported Open Source Linux distributions available. AMENDMENT1 uses the built-in Linux IPTables firewall and features Intrusion Detection and Threat Mitigation with Fail2Ban. AMENDMENT1 is immune from all known hardware exploits like Spectre and Meltdown and features automatic security updates for all software. Open platforms make it impossible to hide errors or omissions in hardware and software.

The AMENDMENT1 is a full computer System on a Chip. Unlike Network Appliances or “Flash Routers,” it is not designed for a “minimum efficient” set of features.
